For the longest time, the estimate of people lacking access to clean drinking water has been 1.1 BILLION people. The latest estimate is 884 MILLION, a number researched and published by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. This tells us that efforts over the last decade or so are working. It gives us hope.
30perperson.org exists to prove that you can get people clean water for under 10 billion. Some people say it can't be done. But we're in contact with organizations who are on the ground all over the world implementing solutions to the tune of $1 per person per year. We've also seen a solar powered machine that can purify water to the tune of $3 per person per year. And most of that is paid for by the villagers themselves.
Whatever method that is used, you can bet that 30perperson.org will seek out and fund those who are giving the most people clean water and making the best use of your dollar.
Can we raise $9 billion? Not without you. Not without your enthusiasm and your ability to talk. See, we don't want to be just another organization that assaults your mailbox with plea letters. We don't want to pretend that we have all the answers and that if you just "give us money, we'll take care of the rest." I mean, heck, we don't just want your money. We want you!! We want to you memorize the facts, we want to you to speak out. We want you to tell your family and friends. We want you to design your own postcards, flyers or business cards. We want you to use your own creative outlets to publicize this issue. 30perperon.org exists only to motivate the masses and to direct funds to the best project implementers.
We don't just want your money, we want your time. We want your energy, your prayers, your mouth, your musical talents, your gift of the gab, your artwork. Man, we just want YOU! Obviously we can't hire all of you. Heck, we can't even hire ourselves! But we want you to be a part of us. We want you to understand that this project doesn't exist without you. That is why we have plans to have downloadable powerpoint presentations, speaking outlines, print guidelines... and T-SHIRTS!! Cool swag, like shirts, frisbees, and artist prints will help us do this thing... in style!! Yes, it's true, we know little about style, but dangit, that's why we need you!!!
